Drone Hire in Sandton
Hire companies and drone shops that serve Sandton can quote camera, FPV and work drones by the day or week, with batteries and a case. Say which days you need it, what you plan to film, and whether you want collection, delivery or a drone with a licensed pilot instead.
The main drone hire page explains the types, the licences and the costs in more detail.
Parts, training & hire in Sandton: local notes
Gear demand in Sandton leans toward extras: spare intelligent batteries, ND filters, hard cases and care plans for expensive drones. Repairers in Rivonia and Woodmead see water and crash damage after holidays, and many offer courier collection. Staff at Sandton companies sometimes take an RPL course so the business can fly its own site footage through an operator. Ask a school whether classes run after hours or on weekends.
Drones in Sandton
Sandton is all glass towers, hotels and dense residential blocks, so drone work here is mostly corporate and property. Developers want facade and rooftop footage, agencies want the skyline for brand videos, and large homes in Bryanston and Hyde Park are marketed with aerial photos. Flying is tightly limited. The area sits under busy Johannesburg airspace, helicopters cross the towers, and building managers rarely allow take-off from a roof without notice. Privacy matters to residents and hotel guests. Wind funnels between tall buildings and summer storms arrive with little warning. Expect most jobs to be flown by licensed operators who plan each site, rather than by hobbyists.
The requests we see from Sandton usually come from:
- Photographers, film crews and agencies: an extra drone for a licensed crew on a large shoot
- Estate agents and developers: a short hire to test whether aerial photos suit the agency's listings
- Builders, engineers and installers: a stand-in drone while the site's own drone is away for repair
Local tips for Sandton
Popular here: corporate skyline video, facade footage and upmarket home listings. Ask each supplier about this: ask the operator to arrange building and body corporate consent in writing. Where they work from: operators in Rivonia, Sunninghill and Woodmead serve the towers and estates.
Requests range widely: one day to a few weeks. Here, photographers, film crews and agencies lead the requests, typically for an extra drone for a licensed crew on a large shoot. One local point to raise: under busy Johannesburg airspace with frequent helicopters: plan every flight.
